Twitter Reactions: England rely on Bazball after Pakistan's superb 1st innings display

Day 2: Pakistan picked up where they left off on Tuesday, October 8, at the Multan Cricket Stadium in Multan, putting on a terrific display with the bat. After being eventually dismissed for 556, England advanced to the Stumps at 96/1 in 20 overs.

Day 2 began with Pakistan at 328/4, with Naseem Shah and Saud Shakeel at the crease. In the opening session, they accumulated sixty runs until Brydon Carse defeated Naseem. Mohammad Rizwan ate twelve balls and died for a duck. Together with Shakeel, Salman Ali Agha scored 57 runs off of 100 balls. Only 18 runs shy of his fourth Test century, the southpaw was dismissed for 82. Aamer Jamal was removed by Carse shortly after making his Test comeback.

The tourists collapsed to 464/8, but it appeared that they might get their opponents out for less than 500 when Shaheen Afridi joined Salman in the middle. But Shaheen played brilliantly at bat, putting up an 85-run partnership with Salman off of just 103 balls.

With the dismissal of the left-arm bowler, Salman achieved his third century in Test cricket. After all, he scored 104 off 119 balls without conceding a run, helping Pakistan be bowled out for 556.

Ollie Pope utilized all of the England bowlers, and each of them finished with a wicket. Gus Atkinson and Brydon Carse each claimed two wickets, while Jack Leach claimed three. Joe Root, Shoaib Bashir, and Chris Woakes all claimed one wicket apiece.

A duck kills Ollie Pope before England unlocks the Bazball.

Ben Duckett, the usual opener, was out due to an injury to his thumb sustained while taking Abrar Ahmed’s catch, therefore Pope started alongside Zak Crawley. The forced substitution did not, however, pay off as Jamal made an amazing catch in the second over, dismissing the interim captain for a duck.

After this dismissal, though, it was all about Crawley making some beautiful shots and Joe Root supporting him well on the opposite end.

Root and Crawley contributed 92 runs in 112 balls, with the latter smashing 64 off it. The former England captain, meanwhile, was still in the starting lineup.
