England Rehire Man City Psychologist for T20 World Cup 2024

Renowned clinical psychologist David Young has been brought back by the England Cricket Team to oversee the team’s mental health and well-being during the June 2024 T20 World Cup.

Young formerly worked from 2016 to 2020 with the English team. Offering his skills to one of the best football teams in the world, Manchester City, he collaborated closely with Pep Guardiola, a manager who has excelled throughout his career.

Young joined the English team prior to their first T20I match against Pakistan, which resulted in a washout. Young is well-known for his assistance to England’s white-ball captain Jos Buttler prior to the ODI World Cup 2019 final. After helping City get ready for their FA Cup final matchup against Manchester United, their bitter rivals, he will immediately join the squad for their third Twenty20 international.

The management of England hopes to learn from its mistakes at the 2023 ODI World Cup, where it finished in the group stage with just three wins out of nine games. Head coach of England’s white-ball team, Matthew Mott, referred to the competition as “death by a thousand cuts” and declared that “business as usual” could no longer continue after a turbulent experience filled with severe failures.

In addition, he addressed the team’s decision to improve transparency in training sessions and emphasized the necessity of a significant realignment within the group. Thinking back on their time in India for the 50-over World Cup, Mott acknowledged that they have a propensity to solve problems on their own. HR did, however, highlight their new commitment to promoting a positive team chemistry.

You can’t just carry on with “business as usual” after experiencing something as unpleasant as we have. As a team, you need to rethink your approach. We’ve committed as a group to help each other out a little more and to be a little more open within and outside of our training sessions. We were all guilty of being a little too solitary in India and attempting to handle our own problems. As a group, we’ve committed to being a little more transparent and vulnerable so that we can support one another,” ESPNcricinfo cited Mott as saying.

Despite slight injury concerns for both Liam Livingstone and Mark Wood, England is expected to complete their T20 World Cup team before the second T20I at Edgbaston, consisting of the same 15 players from the provisional roster.
