At the age of 29, England quick Freya Davies has made the decision to leave professional cricket. In an attempt to establish herself in a completely different industry, she will now work as a trainee solicitor in the legal profession. A remarkable cricket career that lasted for ten and a half years comes to an end with this decision.
In a T20I match against Sri Lanka in Colombo in March 2019, Davies received his first international cap. In 2023, she played her final game for England at Edgbaston in Birmingham against Australia.

At the age of 14, Davies signed with Sussex, which marked the beginning of her cricket career. In domestic cricket, she quickly established herself, playing for clubs such as Hampshire, London Spirit, Welsh Fire, South East Stars, Western Storm, and Southern Vipers. The right-arm pacer made 86 appearances for her native county and was instrumental in Sussex’s 2013 County Championship victory.
With 19 wickets in 2019, Davies held the record for most wickets taken in the Women’s Cricket Super League. She played 35 ODI and T20I matches for England internationally between 2019 and 2023, taking 33 wickets, including four against New Zealand in Wellington. Davies’ final averages in ODIs and T20Is are 31.10 and 23.21, respectively.
On Sunday, September 21, she played her final competitive match for Hampshire against Lancashire in the One-Day Cup final at the Rose Bowl in Southampton. She took 19 wickets from 14 games in that tournament, when Hampshire placed second, including her best figures of 9.5-0-39-4 against Surrey in the quarterfinals. Davies also played in 37 Women’s Hundred games, taking 36 wickets for Welsh Fire and London Spirit.
She took eight wickets for Welsh Fire at an average of 21.37 in as many games during the 2025 Women’s Hundred. Welsh Fire, however, placed last in the standings.
