Women's Ashes 2025: England's Ashes retention hangs on thread as Australia hand ODI clean sweep

In the final ODI of the Women’s Ashes 2025, Australia Women hosted England Women. While the visitors were playing for dignity, the Australians had already established an insurmountable lead in the series. Notably, the Bellerive Oval in Hobart hosted the final ODI.

In relation to the game, the ‘Women in Yellow’ decided to bat first after winning the toss. At one point, the hosts were reeling at 59/4, suggesting that the English women bowlers had overcome the Australian top order. But with amazing half-centuries from Beth Mooney (50 off 64 deliveries) and Tahlia McGrath (55 off 45 deliveries), the Australian women had plenty of shocks in store.

The all-rounder Ashleigh Gardner, however, was the day’s highlight as she amassed a run-a-ball knock and recorded her first ODI century (102 runs off 112 balls). The hosts soared to a respectable 308 thanks to her brilliant knock.

England’s hitters found it difficult to get going in response.

None of the hitters put forth any effort to handle the strain of the run chase, with the exception of all-rounder Nat Sciver-Brunt (61 off 68 deliveries) and Tammy Beaumont (54 off 77 deliveries). Consequently, the England women lost the match by 86 runs after being bowled out for 222.

As Australia Women dominated the England Women in the ODI series, Alana King was the standout bowler for the home team once again. She finished her bowling spell with a five-wicket haul (5/46) in 8.2 overs.

Alana King and Ashleigh Gardner become the series’ main stars.

Ashleigh Gardner’s outstanding run in the Women’s Ashes 2025 is still going strong. In the three-match ODI series, the prolific all-rounder finished as the top run scorer. She achieved a remarkable batting average of 73 runs while scoring 146 runs. Gardner also claimed four wickets at an average of 21 while bowling.

Alana King, an excellent leg spinner, was the series’ best bowler aside from this. In these three ODI matches, she took 11 wickets. King maintained an economy of 4.18 and an average of 9.63 while bowling. She shown her ability to assist Australian women in defending a low total in the second ODI.
