The team for the upcoming five-match ODI series against Australia, which is scheduled to start on September 19 at Trent Bridge, was revealed by the England and Wales Cricket Board. Due to a calf injury, captain Jos Buttler will not be playing in this series. Harry Brook will be leading the squad instead.
Josh Hull, a pacer who recently received his first call-up to the England squad, is also out due to a quad injury. Liam Livingstone, who won the award for Player of the Match in the second Twenty20 International match versus Australia, has been included to the team for the five-game series.
Jonny Bairstow, a keeper-battler, has been disregarded for the series. Moeen Ali and Bairstow were left off the roster because England is concentrating on developing a team for the future. Since then, Moeen has retired from playing cricket internationally, while Bairstow is considering a return.
In addition to Moeen and Bairstow, a number of other notable cricket players are not present in the Australia series. Chris Woakes was not selected, and Mark Wood and Gus Atkinson were ruled out because of elbow and thigh injuries, respectively.
Brook will also be leading the national team for the first time at this point. In 2022, he was selected Yorkshire’s deputy for four T20 Blast matches, and in 2018, he captained the U19 England squad. He was named captain of the Northern Superchargers not too long ago, and during his tenure, the team won five of their six games, just missing out on the knockout round.

In the most recent Test series against Sri Lanka, he was also designated as Ollie Pope’s deputy, with Ben Stokes missing the match because of a hamstring injury.
