For the first ODI of the three-match series against India, the Three Lions have revealed their lineup. On Thursday, February 6, the game will take place at the VCA Stadium in Nagpur, and it will mark the long-awaited return of star batsman Joe Root to One-Day competition.
Root will finish the top-order in the unit, and the visitors have kept the opening combination, similar to the T20I series, in which they lost 1-4. Harry Brook, who hasn’t proven himself in the format under subcontinental circumstances, will be at number four. Jos Buttler, the captain of England, will bat at number five, although it is unclear what his responsibilities as a wicketkeeper will be. It is reasonable to suppose that Salt will be assigned to fill in for him.
All-rounders Liam Livingstone and Brydon Carse will handle the lower-middle order, while Jacob Bethell is anticipated to play the position of finisher with the bat and Carse will also be responsible as a pacer. Jofra Archer and Saqib Mahmood will be his teammates, while Adil Rashid, a seasoned campaigner, is the lone specialist spinner in the lineup. However, Livingstone is expected to roll his arm over for a good portion of England’s bowling, and Root might be used as one of the spinners.
England Playing XI
Ben Duckett, Phil Salt, Joe Root, Harry Brook, Jos Buttler, Liam Livingstone, Jacob Bethell, Brydon Carse, Jofra Archer, Adil Rashid, Saqib Mahmood
Varun Chakravarthy is called by India; Bumrah is not
Following his Player of the Series performance in the five Twenty20 Internationals, where he took 14 wickets, the most in the series, Varun Chakravarthy, who has earned his first call-up in the format, has been hired by the hosts, India.
Ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah, who was only scheduled to play in the third ODI in Ahmedabad, has been thrown out of the series entirely. His participation in the crucial ICC Champions Trophy is also in question as a result of his dismissal.
