4th ODI between England and New Zealand: Stats Review: Joe Root's slump, second-highest score by Dawid Malan, and other stats

In the fourth and final ODI at Lord’s, England defeated New Zealand by a score of 100 runs, with Dawid Malan reaching his fifth century and Moeen Ali recording 4/50 in ten overs. With this triumph, the host team won three straight games to win the series 3-1.

Jos Buttler, the captain, chose to bat first after winning the toss and discussing how the game turned out. Jonny Bairstow was out for 13, while Joe Root’s bad performance persisted as he scored 29 runs off of 40. Only 39 runs were managed to be scored by the right-handed batter in his four series appearances.

Malan, who scored 127 off 114, including 14 fours and three maximums, was the star of England’s innings. England scored a substantial total of 311/9 in their allotted 20 overs thanks to the contributions of Buttler, Liam Livingstone, and the lower order, who each scored 36 and 28 runs, respectively.

The best bowler for New Zealand was Rachin Ravindra, who took 4/60 in ten overs. Will Young and Devon Conway, the two starters, responded by scoring 24 and 7 runs, respectively. Daryl Mitchell was removed for just four while Henry Nicholls played a knock of 41 off 48. Ravindra supported his bowling effort by making a contribution with the bat as well; he scored 61 runs off of 48 deliveries, but the Kiwis never really appeared to be pursuing their objective.

With the exception of Reece Topley, everyone of England’s bowlers claimed at least one wicket in the 38.2 overs they needed to dismiss the visitors for 211. Malan was named Player of the Match in recognition of his outstanding century. In addition to winning Player of the Series, the left-handed starter scored 277 runs in just three innings.

Here are some significant figures and statistics from the fourth One-Day International between England and New Zealand:

Dawid Malan’s 127 in ODIs was his second-highest ODI score. In Adelaide in the year 2022, he beat Australia with a score of 134.

In the just finished ODI series against New Zealand, Malan amassed 277 runs in three innings at a respectable average of 92.33 and a strike rate of 105.72, including one century and two fifties.

Rachin Rachindra joined a select group of New Zealand players who have taken four or more wickets and scored fifty runs in the same ODI match. Ravindra scored 61 off 48 and claimed four victims for a total of 60 runs. In a 2002 match against the West Indies, Scott Styris amassed an unbeaten 63 while taking 6/25.

Malan scored 1046 runs in the 50-over format, breaking a record.

Moeen Ali scored 4/50, which is his second-best ODI performance. 2018’s Manchester matchup between Australia and him had his best spell of 4/46.

Joe Root only managed to score 39 runs in four innings, with the highest score in this ODI series being 29, and a dismal average of 9.75.

Malan, a left-handed batsman, has played 21 innings and scored 1046 runs at an average of 61.52, including five hundreds and five fifty-pluses in his ODI career to date.

Malan reached 1000 runs for England in 21 innings, making him the second-fastest player overall. In the same number of innings, Jonathan Trott also succeeded. In terms of attaining the milestone in 20 innings, Kevin Pietersen tops the list.
