Reports: England will go past Moeen Ali, Jonny Bairstow in white-ball cricket, and the status of Liam Livingstone is under danger

The senior players will probably face heavy criticism from the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and be removed from the white-ball squad. The management has called for change, which might result in players like Jonny Bairstow and Moeen Ali losing their spots in the squad, following an embarrassing performance in the ODI World Cup 2023 and a lacklustre showing in the T20 World Cup 2024.

Jos Buttler‘s future as captain of the white-ball forms was called into question following a loss in the T20 World Cup semifinals. The resignation of head coach Matthew Mott increased the strain on the keeper-batter. More information is anticipated to surface when England name their team for the Australia series. It remains to be seen if Buttler will be dropped or if he will command the team while keeping an eye on the Champions Trophy.

The Telegraph has reported that Jacob Bethell will receive his first call-up during the Australia series. The 20-year-old has scored 339 and 731 runs in 16 List A games and 44 T20 games, respectively, during his playing career.

In white-ball cricket, he has 22 wickets when using the ball. With him entering the lineup, England will probably let go of Moeen Ali.

Jonny Bairstow, who was crucial to England’s victory in the 2019 ODI World Cup, struggled miserably in the previous two ICC competitions. He was also just dropped from Test cricket, so it’s possible that England would now consider options other than him. The management may support Jamie Smith, who has performed admirably in Test cricket, even though it’s uncertain who can take Bairstow’s place in the team.
