After winning the final match by seven wickets, England completely destroyed the West Indies in the three-match ODI series, launching their disastrous post-Champions Trophy 2025 campaign. The host team accepted the trophy during the game, which took place at London’s Kennington Oval.
The Englishmen returned to action with several exceptional players in the squad, but with a new manager, after a poor Champions Trophy campaign. Despite a number of standout individual performances, the West Indies, on the other hand, lacked balance in the squad and appeared weak in every game.
Harry Brook, the English captain, won the toss and the hosts chose to bowl first. West Indies were 154-7 in 27.2 overs after losing early wickets. The middle order batsmen took needless wickets as the top order hitters failed to provide a strong start to the match. The English bowlers, meanwhile, were having a great time. They troubled the batters while keeping their line and length. Nevertheless, the squad scored 251 in 40 overs thanks to a 91-run partnership between Sherfane Rutherford (70 off 71) and Motie (63 off 54).
Notably, rain delays forced the match to be shortened to 40 overs per side. Adil Rashid was the standout bowler for England, taking three wickets over his whole eight-over stint. Matthew Potts, Brydon Carse, and Saqib Mahmood all claimed two wickets. The top order appeared completely different when England batted.
The 93-run first-wicket partnership between Jamie Smith and Ben Duckett provided England’s innings with the ideal foundation.
The remaining hitters later converted the momentum. The hosts finished the match in 29.4 overs, well within their comfort zone despite losing three wickets. Jos Buttler scored 41 runs off of 20 balls, and Joe Root scored 44 runs off of 49 balls.
To prevent more disruptions, the players played quickly while keeping the rain factor in mind. Smith was named Player of the Match for his outstanding hitting display.
