Jofra Archer has been selected to England’s squad for the second Test match against India at Edgbaston next week, potentially marking his much anticipated comeback to Test cricket after four years. Following a five-wicket victory at Headingley to take a 1-0 series lead, England named Archer in the team. On Wednesday, June 2, the second Test is expected to start.
Jofra Archer recently played for Sussex against Durham in a County Championship match, marking his first appearance in red-ball cricket since May 2021. Alongside first Test seamers Chris Woakes, Brydon Carse, and Josh Tongue, he joins a pace unit that also features Jamie Overton and Sam Cook.
Today, it felt fine. According to ESPNcricinfo, Jofra Archer stated, “I’ve been playing for a year and bowling for two years, including the build-up, so everything is fine.”
“Now that I know my body can handle it, it’s a different challenge. The game’s cerebral component [will be difficult]. I’ll have to fight with it a little over the next few days, but everything will be OK. “I’ll keep pushing through this new challenge,” he continued.
Jofra Archer, 30, missed a significant amount of time because of a back stress fracture after suffering a recurrent elbow ailment.
He consequently played in just seven limited-overs international matches from March 2021 to May 2024.
He has subsequently resumed playing white-ball cricket on a regular basis, though, and recently made his much anticipated comeback to first-class cricket at Chester-le-Street. In a match that ended in a draw, he bowled 18 overs for Sussex against Durham, taking one wicket for 32 runs.
Tongue finished with match stats of 7 for 158, making him England’s most impressive player in the first Test match at Leeds. Carse took four wickets, and Ben Stokes added five. Even though Woakes had a poor performance (1 for 148), he might settle into a groove as the series goes on.
