ENG U-19 vs IND U-19 2025: Ayush Mhatre dismissed for a first-ball duck in 2nd ODI

At the County Ground in Northampton, India Under 19 captain Ayush Mhatre was removed on the first legal ball of the second ODI against England Under 19. Early in the game, Ayush Mhatre defence was breached, and his off-stump went haywire.

The batter was out for the second consecutive time after being removed by Alex French in the opening ODI of the five-match series. For his 21st birthday, Ayush Mhatre looked good in the series opener, but this was a major blow for him and his team.

Following some steady performances in the domestic circuit for Mumbai and the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL 2025, Ayush Mhatre suffered back-to-back defeats.

The incredibly gifted Ayush Mhatre had an average of 65.42 before to the present match, which was his seventh appearance in List A.

The Mumbai-born hitter had an incredible first IPL season with CSK, batting at the top of the order. At an aggressive strike rate of 188.97, he amassed 240 runs in seven games, hitting 31 fours and 11 sixes. He replaced CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad due to an injury sustained in the middle of the season, and his assured and strategic strokeplay made an impression.

Speaking of the series’ opening match, India U-19 won handily by six wickets with 156 balls remaining. The hosts were bowled for a pitiful 174 in 42.2 overs thanks to a collective bowling effort. In response, the Men in Blue reached the goal in just 24 overs thanks to a 19-ball 48 from Vaibhav Suryavanshi.

The unbeaten batters were Rahul Kumar, Abhigyan Kundu, and wicketkeeper-batter. They both scored an undefeated 17 off 25 and an undefeated 45 off 34. French, the same bowler who bowled a gem to remove Mhatre in the current match, took two of the four wickets that fell.
