Temba Bavuma is out of the Cape Town Test against India because of a hamstring strain he suffered on the first day of the Boxing Day Test. Dean Elgar, who just produced a game-winning knock in Centurion, will now be the captain.
Shukri Conrad, the coach for South Africa, claims that Bavuma is not in good physical shape right now. Throughout the first Test, he was intensively watched and prepared to bat whenever needed.
“The physical condition of Temba is not good. At every opportunity, he prepared to bat. We continued to watch it. “You put something out there; I don’t know if the opposition will notice it,” ESPNcricinfo cited Shukri Conrad as saying.
Conrad gave the following justification for excluding Bavuma: “Some things are tactical. We sensed that there is a chance he might exacerbate the risk. In two weeks, he will have it evaluated. Cape Town is undoubtedly his destination. Zubayr Hamza is coming on board.
With an innings and 32 runs to spare, South Africa took the lead in the series with a commanding victory over India in three days during the first Test. Key performances from Elgar, Marco Jansen, Kagiso Rabada, and Nandre Burger demonstrated prowess with the bat and the ball for the Proteas.
Player of the Match Dean Elgar, who was congratulated on his fantastic effort, acknowledged that occasionally plans don’t go as planned but expressed satisfaction that things went well this time.
