An MRI scan has shown that Sophie Ecclestone, a left-arm spinner for England, has a small damage to the joint adjacent to her collar bone. Prior to Wednesday’s (October 29) ICC Women’s World Cup semi-final matchup against South Africa, she will continue to be evaluated.
The England cricket team is hopeful that she will recover in time to play in the match, despite the setback.
“Sophie Ecclestone’s left shoulder MRI scan revealed a slight damage to the joint adjacent to her collar bone.
Prior to Wednesday’s match against South Africa in the ICC Women’s World Cup semi-final, she will continue to be evaluated, the England and Wales Cricket Board said in a statement.
England’s run to the semi-finals has been greatly aided by Ecclestone. She is tied with teammate Linsey Smith for the fifth-highest number of wickets taken in this tournament, having taken 12 at an economy rate of 3.98 in 6 games.
After winning five games and sharing points with Pakistan following a washout, England finished second in the points standings with 11 points.
