England Cricket Board to speed up Moeen Ali's transfer to coaching

Following his decision to retire from international cricket, former England all-rounder Moeen Ali will move into coaching. Had he not accepted the late opportunity to be a member of the Guyana Amazon Warriors setup for the Caribbean Premier League in 2024, he most likely would have been a consultant coach in the Youth ODI Tri-Series with the England U-19 squad.

The England & Wales Cricket Board is eager to develop the next generation of cricketers by utilising the seasoned player’s leadership abilities. Working with the England U-19s or the England Lions/England A, the England management will be looking to capitalise on his experience in the route program.

My goal is to rank among the top: Moeen Ali

It seems from a recent talk that Moeen had been eyeing teaching for some time after he announced his retirement from the international game. He said that he would undoubtedly want to learn the subtleties from England’s head coach, Brendon McCullum, if he were added to the coaching staff.

“My goal is to become a coach. I aspire to be among the finest. There is a lot that Baz [Brendon McCullum] can teach me. I want to be known as a free spirit. I hope people enjoyed seeing me. I played some beautiful shots and some awful shots,” Moeen said, as reported by The Telegraph.

Rob Key, the managing director of the ECB, also voiced his uneasy opinion in March about Moeen’s chances of succeeding as a coach.

In an interview with the same journal, Key stated, “I think Moeen Ali will be an excellent coach.”

During Moeen’s playing career, England had a few veteran players in their ranks, therefore he was never truly required to lead the team. The Birmingham native led the squad in 12 Twenty20 Internationals and one One-Day International throughout his 298-game tenure with The Three Lions.
