Following a remarkable career as one of the finest players in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), Dwayne Bravo is now the head coach of the Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR). The former athlete who is now a coach maintains that his formula is straightforward: establish the ideal atmosphere, inspire elite players, and allow them to express themselves.
Since these folks are so gifted and experienced, I don’t really care about coaching them. In addition to coaching, I ensure that the atmosphere is stable and healthy, provide them with a platform to express themselves, and be open and honest when things don’t work out. With guys like Mohammed Amir, Alex Hales, and Colin Munro—all of whom are elite athletes—I chose an experienced squad for a reason. I simply keep them hungry and encouraging them,” he continued.
Since Dwayne Bravo shares a dressing room and a cricketing mentality with some of his closest friends, his transition from player to coach has been smoothed out. Since the leadership group has a “similar way” of thinking, he acknowledged, his approach is straightforward.
“I’ve spent the most of my cricket matches with these guys. Our thought processes and approaches to game analysis are extremely similar. After exchanging ideas, we always let Nicholas Pooran take charge and make his own choices. He is performing admirably, and there is a reason we gave him the reins of leadership. I pass it on to (Kieron) Pollard, who then passes it on to Nicky P, and so on.
Dwayne Bravo acknowledged that he still has the urge to play again sometimes, especially in front of the boisterous Trinidad crowd, even though he is no longer on the pitch, dazzling with bat and ball.
“Obviously, the fans mean the world to us, but I miss playing.” People notice how enthusiastic we are about the sport when they first visit. It’s excellent that people can feel our culture, people, and emotion; this is as significant as any cricket match in India.
