Dulip Samaraweera is banned by Cricket Australia for 20 years on misconduct with female cricket

Former Sri Lankan Test cricket player Dulip Samaraweera is not permitted to hold any positions or titles inside the Australian cricket system. Additionally, a 20-year ban has been imposed upon him. Interestingly, some anonymous sources claim that the athlete was discovered engaging in a “coercive” relationship with a female player, giving them an unfair edge while under Victoria’s coaching arrangement.

Moreover, considering the seriousness of the situation, Cricket Victoria chose to withhold the sources’ identities. The officials made it quite plain that any acts that are in opposition to Victoria’s culture would not be accepted at all, citing the safety concerns of all those involved who are employed by and represent the domestic Australian state.

We at Cricket Victoria believe that the behavior was completely abhorrent and a betrayal of all that we stand for. Speaking up, the victim in this case has shown amazing courage and strength of character. According to the Sydney Morning Herald, Nick Cummins, the Chief Executive of Cricket Victoria, stated, “She will continue to receive our ongoing support to allow her to achieve her goals on and off the pitch.”

From an organizational standpoint, everyone’s safety and well-being at Cricket Victoria are of utmost importance. He went on, “We will always support our culture of speaking up and will not accept any action that threatens that viewpoint or our people.

After the incident, Australian Cricketers Association Chief Executive Todd Greenberg made a call for the sport’s leaders to assume personal responsibility for ensuring each member’s safety and preventing similar situations in the future. As for the criminal inquiry, it hasn’t been underway as of yet.

These are quite significant discoveries that a lot of people in the cricket community would find shocking or upsetting. Our members’ safety and well-being always come first. It is now incumbent upon the leaders of Australian cricket to take all reasonable steps to prevent future occurrences of incidents of this nature. We have brought up this requirement with Cricket Australia,” said Greenberg.

Dedicated to offering a secure atmosphere for all participants and staff: Cricket Australia

In the meantime, Cricket Australia (CA) expressed their opinions on the Samaraweera matter after taking notice of the circumstances. It was verified that throughout his tenure with Cricket Victoria, the Sri Lankan cricket player engaged in inappropriate behavior. According to section 2.23 of the CA code of conduct, this was his result.

Additionally, they provided more clarification by stating that the Australian Cricket Board was dedicated to ensuring a safe environment for both employees and players, and that state boards are not the only entities subject to laws and regulations. This basically implies that the cricket player won’t be able to work in any form, not even in franchise leagues like the Big Bash League (BBL).

Dulip Samaraweera was employed by Cricket Victoria at the time the inappropriate conduct charges were made

Section 2.23 of the CA code of conduct was violated by Samaraweera’s inappropriate behavior, according to the conduct commission’s findings. State and territorial associations are also subject to integrity codes and policies, which are the subject of investigations by the CA Integrity Department. Cricket Australia released a statement stating that “the conduct commission hears matters referred to it by CA integrity.”

The wellbeing of individuals who are mistreated is of utmost importance, and CA and [Cricket Victoria] are dedicated to creating a safe environment for all players and staff. “We fervently urge individuals to report any inappropriate behavior, either through the core integrity hotline or directly to the CA integrity unit,” the board statement concluded.

Additionally, Samaraweera was contacted by the Sydney Herald for a follow-up, but he was unable to comment on the brewing issue or the Australian Cricket ban.
