On Day 1 of the second semi-final of the Duleep Trophy 2025 between West Zone and Central Zone at the BCCI Centre of Excellence Ground B in Bengaluru, Shreyas Iyer walked back for 25 off 28. During play on the first day, Iyer was the fourth wicket to be removed.
Shreyas Iyer was bowled out by Khaleel Ahmed’s around-the-wicket angle, when he inside-edged the ball to try to cut it, disturbing his middle stump. Although there was a lengthy delay to see if Khaleel had gone too far, the delivery was ultimately determined to be lawful.
Following the dismissal of Yashasvi Jaiswal for a three-ball four in the opening over of the day, Shreyas Iyer was the Khaleel’s second breakthrough of the day. A few overs later, Harvik Desai, Jaiswal’s opening partner, was out. He was unable to capitalise on his start, though.
Four limits have already been hit by Shreyas Iyer.
In the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL), Shreyas Iyer played his final competitive game as captain of the Punjab Kings, who defeated Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the tournament’s final. With a strike rate of 175.07 and 604 runs in 17 games, the PBKS captain had an incredible batting season. After a string of strong domestic cricket innings for Mumbai, it seemed nearly a given that Iyer would be included in India’s Asia Cup side.
But when the team was revealed at the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) headquarters in Mumbai, his name was not included. Chief selector Ajit Agarkar said that Iyer will have to “wait for his chance” in response to media questions on his non-selection, which caused a significant uproar among cricket fans on social media.
