After Ruturaj Gaikwad was sidelined by an elbow injury on Thursday, April 10, MS Dhoni assumed captaincy of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for the balance of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.
MS Dhoni is the IPL’s second-most successful skipper.
He has guided CSK to five championships, with 2023 marking the final one. Prior to the 2024 IPL, the former captain of India gave Ruturaj the captaincy of CSK.
Chennai has lost four of its first five IPL 2025 games, which is a terrible start. Robin Uthappa, a former cricket player for India, believes that even the great MS Dhoni won’t be able to make a quick change for CSK. Uthappa identified the person who might cover for batter Ruturaj.
“I don’t believe that CSK’s fortunes will change just because he is captain. That side is filled with gaps, isn’t it? So, how can that be fixed? Rutu seems to be the only batter finding some form, so how do you cover for him? After the Royal Challengers Bengaluru vs. Delhi Capitals game, Uthappa asked the broadcasters.
The gifted Rachin Ravindra hasn’t played at his best in the past several games, according to Uthappa. The all-round player won the 2025 Champions Trophy with the most runs. He has only managed one fifty from five games in the IPL, though.
Devon Conway, who scored 69* before being retired out, demonstrated some form in the previous match against Punjab. Since the start of the IPL, Rachin has been a touch inconsistent, Uthappa stated.
On Friday, April 11, Chennai will play the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the storied MA Chidambaram Stadium. In front of their home crowd, the Men in Yellow will try to snap their four-game losing streak. The Knights, on the other hand, have won two of their first five games and lost three.
