Darren Gough has been replaced as head coach of the Lahore Qalandars by Russell Domingo. Gough’s “unavoidable personal commitments” would prevent him from accepting the position, according to a statement from Qalandars.
Gough was first hired as the Qalandars coach for the Global Super League in Guyana last year, with the idea that he would stay on and lead the team in the PSL’s tenth season. Despite finishing fourth and losing in the group stages, the Qalandars were pleased with Gough’s tactical skills and stated that the job was permanent.
Gough’s late withdrawal has disappointed Qalandars, but they added in a statement that they “understood and respected” his previous obligations. “He remains a valued part of the Qalandars family, and we sincerely wish him the very best.”
Domingo, a former coach of Bangladesh and South Africa, will take over in his place as the Qalandars attempt to win their third championship in as many years. “Being a member of the Lahore Qalandars for the 2025 PSL season excites me greatly. I’m eager to start working, get to know the players and management, and begin getting ready for what seems to be an incredibly thrilling campaign. We are confident that our devoted followers will be behind us, and I am looking forward to making you all proud in the upcoming weeks.”
Sameen Rana, a co-owner of Qalandars, stated, “We are thrilled to have Russell Domingo join us as head coach for PSL 10.”
“Russel is a tremendous asset to the Qalandars because of his extensive international expertise. His experience, in our opinion, will be a huge asset to our team’s performance in PSL 10.
The Qalandars play the reigning champions Islamabad United in Rawalpindi on April 11 to kick off the PSL.
