When the Tripura Cricket Association (TCA) hired former South African international Lance Klusener as a coach for the state team, they got a very good player. The 51-year-old will work with both the Ranji team and the players in the state to help them improve.

The former South African all-rounder is now the coach of the Durban Super Giants in the SA20 league. He has worked as a batting coach for both South Africa and Zimbabwe, so he has a lot of international experience. During the 2021 T20 World Cup, he was also the head coach of Afghanistan.

Even though it is a huge win for the state of Tripura and Indian domestic cricket in general, Klusener is not new to the circuit because he was also Delhi’s assistant coach for the 2018-19 season. The 51-year-old was hired on a contract basis, and he or she will be in charge for 100 days.

The former Proteas star would put the Ranji team’s needs first, but he would also help the state’s other eight teams of different ages and sections get better. Timir Chanda, the vice president of the Tripura Cricket Association, will go with Klusener to the state capital of Agartala on Saturday. The South African will stay in the capital for 20 days to help young cricket players in the area.

“We hope that the cricket players will learn from his many years of experience abroad. “Our cricketers are also happy to work with Klusener,” Chanda said in a statement.

After Dav Whatmore turned down the job, Klusener became the favorite.

This week, the vice president of the TCA said that an ad would be put out for a teaching position in March. Even well-known people like Dav Whatmore, a former Australian player and coach for Sri Lanka, and Lance Klusener sent in applications. Furthermore, he was their first choice because he led Sri Lanka to their first World Cup win in 1996, but the Australian pulled out of the talks at the last minute for personal reasons.
