“Unbroken: The Unmukt Chand Story,” a documentary series about India’s Under-19 World Cup-winning captain, has been completed by Netflix director Raghav Khanna.
Unmukt Chand was previously seen as Indian cricket’s next major star after scoring a game-winning century to lead his country to the 2012 Under-19 World Cup championship. However, his career did not go as planned. At the age of 28, he departed from Indian cricket after experiencing rejection in domestic circuits despite his early success with the Delhi Daredevils and India A.
Riverland Entertainment and Tudip Entertainment are producing the Khanna-directed docuseries, which is scheduled for release soon. Given Khanna’s other Netflix efforts, such as The Elephant Whisperers and The Hunt for Veerappan, there are great hopes even though the official platform hasn’t been announced.
From winning the Under-19 World Cup to retiring from India at the age of 28, life has been quite the journey. I’ve lived on the extremes of public opinion, from being a poster boy to being trolled and then forgotten. I was first apprehensive when Raghav told me about the documentary, but working with him to film it was a cathartic experience that changed the way I saw my own past. According to Variety, Unmukt Chand stated, “I think it’s a story that will resonate with many people who do not get what they want but are still determined enough to keep pursuing their path.”

Veteran producers Tushar Apshankar and Dipti Agrawal are expected to join the project, while Khanna will serve as producer in addition to co-producer Priyanka Chaudhari. Khanna said he was thrilled to tell the cricketer’s tale.
The stark contrast between Unmukt Chand potential and the result—the transition from being heralded as Indian cricket’s next big star to being rejected into obscurity—was what drew me to his story. His story highlights the harsh and competitive character of professional athletics, as well as possibly life in general, when a single, frequently uncontrollable event can destroy years of arduous effort and ambition. This is fundamentally a movie about dashed hopes, second chances, and the forbearance required to start afresh,” Khanna stated.
Unmukt Chand has found a second shot at playing cricket abroad and is currently a member of the Los Angeles Knight Riders in Major League Cricket in America.
He has recovered from poor performance in previous MLC seasons, scoring 243 runs in seven games in 2025 to rank among the league’s best scorers.
