Despite losing the Manchester Test against England, Dinesh Chandimal is "over the moon"

At Emirates Old Trafford, England won the first Test against Sri Lanka by a margin of five wickets. Nevertheless, senior Sri Lankan player Dinesh Chandimal was “over the moon” with the performance his teammates had given. At one point on Day 1, the visitors were 6/3, but the Lankan Lions were able to post 236 thanks to half-centuries each from skipper Dhananjaya de Silva and Milan Rathnayake.

Angelo Mathews and Chandimal himself did a fantastic job even in the second innings, and Kamindu Mendis then struck a spectacular century. It placed Sri Lanka in a very comfortable position; in fact, the team felt confident enough to upset England at home. In the last innings, they had a good start with the ball as England was reduced to 70/3, but Joe Root, Harry Brook, and Jamie Smith once again performed admirably and completed the task.

Despite losing, Sri Lanka was pleased with their performance because they entered the game as the underdogs. Following the match, Chandimal gave recognition to the bowlers who had kept them in the game during the second innings. Additionally, he anticipates that in the second Test at Lord’s, the players will maintain their momentum and mount a more valiant defence.

Not because of the outcome, but rather because of the amazing way we played this game, as a team, we are ecstatic. We lost three wickets in the first thirty minutes of play on the opening day. We won the game thanks to Milan (Rathnayake) and Dhananjaya’s outstanding batting,” Chandimal was cited by as saying.

As it relates to bowling, Asitha and Prabath have performed admirably all throughout the innings. So, given all of the wonderful things going for us, I’m certain we can put up a strong fight at Lord’s and win a game here before returning to Sri Lanka,” he continued.

In addition, on Day 3 of the Test match, Dinesh Chandimal took a hard hit. After his thumb was struck by a bouncer, Mark Wood, 34, had to take a temporary leave of absence due to injury. In an update, the cricket player revealed that he sustained the same injury half a year ago and expressed optimism about being well in time for the second Test.

Chandimal remarked, “Hopefully, I’ll be fit to play the next game. I had the same injury six months ago also, and in the x-ray, they said that it was aggravated.”
