Dilshan Madushanka is one of three players who were named as standbys to Sri Lanka's WCQ team.

Sri Lanka has put Dilshan Madushanka, Dunith Wellalage, and Sahan Arachchige on hold for the World Cup Qualifiers being played in Zimbabwe right now. The three will join the main team on June 23, and they will be ready to play if anyone gets hurt.

Dilshan Madushanka has been recognised for his recent good performances against South Africa A.

In three List-A games and one four-day game, he took nine wickets and picked up four more. The 22-year-old was also the most expensive player to be sold at the first-ever sale for the Lanka Premier League (LPL). He was sold for $92,000.

The fast bowler was chosen because the Sri Lankan seamers aren’t very strong. Lahiru Kumara has a history of getting hurt in the middle of games, and Dushmantha Chameera’s effort is carefully watched. So, Kasun Rajitha and Matheesha Pathirana are the only two seam bowlers in the present team who can be counted on.

Wellalage is a good left-arm spinner who can give the present bowling attack some variety. In the present setup, the captain of the Under-19 team can also bat well in the middle of the order and field better.

On the other hand, Arachchige started a bidding war at the LPL auction and was finally sold for $28,000. The 27-year-old has a lot of promise, as his recent performances have shown. In his last five List-A games, he has scored three fifties.

Sri Lanka beat UAE in opening game

In the other game, Sri Lanka got off to a great start in the Cricket World Cup Qualifiers by beating the UAE (United Arab Emirates) by 175 runs. Sri Lanka batted first and ended up with a huge score of 355/6. This was because Kusal Mendis (78), Sadeera Samarawickrama (73), Dimuth Karunaratne (52), and Pathum Nissanka (57) all scored 50s.

In the second innings, the team led by Dasun Shanka put UAE out for 180 runs, and Wanindu Hasaranga took 6/24 in eight overs. They will next fight Oman in Bulawayo on June 23.
