Dhruv Jurel remembers his early troubles after being called up for an India Test match. "Mum sold her gold chain and got me cricket kit."

The first two Test matches between India and England are slated to begin later this month. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) unexpectedly revealed the lineup for these matches. Dhruv Jurel, a 22-year-old cricket player from Uttar Pradesh, has become the buzz of the town following his selection for the team, taking the spotlight away from the more well-known players.

Dhruv Jurel is an inspiration to watch on his path to the national squad. He remembered his early challenges coming from a poor background.

“Dhruv Jurel attended Army School in the past. I considered attending an Agra cricket camp at Eklavya Stadium during the vacations.

My dad was not informed that I had completed the form. He reprimanded me after learning of it. However, he borrowed Rs 800 to purchase me a cricket bat. My father inquired about the cost of the cricket outfit I mentioned I required. When I informed him how much I had—roughly Rs. 6,000–7,000—he urged me to quit playing. I locked myself in the bathroom, though, since I was stubborn. “My mother sold her gold chain and purchased a cricket kit for me,” Dhruv Jurel stated to Dainik Jagran.
