Devon Conway was called up to replace Finn Allen in New Zealand’s T20I tri-series against Zimbabwe and South Africa a week after being left out. Allen injured his foot in 2025 MLC for the San Francisco Unicorns.
Despite not playing a T20I in over a year, Devon Conway has remained active in franchise cricket.
He recently impressed for the Texas Super Kings in the MLC, hitting 135 runs in four matches at 127.35.
“We feel terrible about Finn. I was excited to work with him and watch him continue his MLC form, but injuries happen. Devon’s quality is a blessing to replace Finn, said New Zealand head coach Rob Walter, per ESPNcricinfo.
Batters Mitchell Hay, Tim Robinson, and allrounder James Neesham also joined. The trio will back up Michael Bracewell, Mark Chapman, Glenn Phillips, and Rachin Ravindra in the MLC final on Sunday.
Walter remarked, “We knew a handful of players could be involved in the MLC final, so we’re bringing in Mitch, Jimmy, and Tim as possible replacements.”
Mitchell Santner will lead the Kiwis as Walter takes over as head coach, assisted by Luke Ronchi, Jacob Oram, and James Foster. Player absences include Kane Williamson, who has opted out of the tour.
Williamson plays county cricket for Middlesex in England. Fast bowler Lockie Ferguson rested to limit his workload. Kyle Jamieson is pregnant and out of the trip, while Ben Sears has a side strain.
New Zealand faces South Africa on Wednesday in their opener. The top two teams advance to the July 26 final after a double round-robin event. All matches will be at Harare Sports Club.
