The Maharashtra chief minister, Devendra Fadnavis, has committed to providing land for the construction of a new stadium in Mumbai that can hold up to one lakh people at a time. The Maharashtra chief minister recalled the suggestion he was asked to make with Amol Kale, the MCA president at the time, and Ajinkya Naik, the present MCA president, and asserted that he had fulfilled it.
When part of the stands at the Wankhede Stadium were renamed after the well-known cricket players, Fadnavis spoke to the crowd. Stands bearing the names of Sharad Pawar, Ajit Wadekar, and Rohit Sharma were dedicated in their honour. Devendra Fadnavis promised during his address to supply the land needed to construct the new cricket ground.
“Amol Kale, the late MCA president, and Ajinkya Naik, the current MCA president, approached me last year to beg that the MCA construct a new stadium with a minimum capacity of one million people. On Friday, May 16, Devendra Fadnavis renamed the stands at the Wankhede Stadium. “And now, I’m assuring Ajinkya that if you come with a proposal, then the Maharashtra government will give you an appropriate good piece of land for the MCA to build its own big stadium which can sit 1,00,000 spectators,” he said.
Mumbai and Maharashtra are home to ardent cricket fans: Devendra Fadnavis
The chief minister of Maharashtra reminded everyone of the state’s and the capital city’s ardent cricket fans and their support to the game. He mentioned that the association will commemorate its 100th anniversary of founding in 2029 and expressed his hope that the stadium would be finished by then. He pledged to offer all the help required to construct the enormous cricket stadium.
“Maharashtra and Mumbai are home to ardent cricket enthusiasts. Mumbai’s contribution to (international) cricket is well known. Four years from now, the MCA will celebrate its 100th anniversary. We should therefore have our new stadium completed by then. And we will supply everything the MCA requires to construct that stadium,” Devendra Fadnavis continued.
One of the rare cities with three top-notch cricket stadiums is Mumbai. The Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy Ground in Navi Mumbai is another venue that has been chosen to host the India Women’s games, even though Brabourne Stadium and Wankhede are only 800 meters apart.
