Delhi and Mumbai have stepped up security in anticipation of the Indian team's PM meeting and triumph parade

After taking home the much-coveted T20 World Cup 2024 trophy, the Indian squad departed for New Delhi. The team’s departure was delayed owing to a hurricane hit Barbados on June 29, the day the event concluded. At last, the team departed the West Indies coast today at 2:26 PM IST, and they will arrive in New Delhi early on July 4. They are scheduled to meet with India’s Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, prior to their departure to Mumbai. There is more security at the Indira Gandhi International Airport where the squad is landing.

The team’s transportation from IGI Airport to the ITC Maurya Hotel, where they would be staying, has been secured by security. Additional arrangements have been made by the police to provide escort cars with armed police officers inside when they travel to the hotel. At approximately six in the morning on Thursday, the crew will arrive in Delhi. The PM will then receive them at his house at 11 a.m.

The Indian team will march from Nariman Point to Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai as part of a victory parade following their meeting with the Prime Minister. Because a surge of supporters is anticipated during the road show, security in Mumbai is also being reinforced. Rohit Sharma, the captain of India, informed the supporters about the victory parade on social media. Recall that the entire Marine Drive stretch was congested during India’s 2007 T20 World Cup victory, and the procession took hours to end.

A challenging day for Mumbai’s regular car traffic

Vehicle traffic has been stopped before to the procession in order to prevent additional mayhem during the occasion. For example, all traffic, including emergency vehicles, will be prohibited from using NS Road (the northbound arm) between NCPA and the Princess Street bridge. All cars will not be able to cross the Princess Street Bridge to reach NCPA/Mantralaya Junction. Thankfully, the trucks have been given permission to use a diversion route.
