At the ICC Women’s World Cup, where they will play England in Indore on Sunday, October 19, India’s all-rounder Deepti Sharma acknowledged that team spirit is still high as they attempt to recover from back-to-back defeats.
After defeating South Africa and Australia, the tournament hosts are now in a close battle for a berth in the semi-finals after having an incredible start to their campaign with back-to-back wins over Sri Lanka and Pakistan. An important match for India as they try to increase their chances of making it to the knockout stages is the forthcoming match against England.
The team has a positive attitude before the game and stays focused on the task at hand, Deepti Sharma stressed.
We’ve lost two games, but our spirits are still high, in my opinion. We approach every match with optimism since our first two went really well. We concentrate more on our collective strengths. Additionally, as you pointed out with regard to bowling, each game involves a variety of roles played by several individuals. Bowlers are stepping up, whether it’s in slog overs or the Powerplay. Prior to the England match, Deepti Sharma was cited as stating, “Everyone is contributing.”
India will play England for the first time in seven days, and Deepti Sharma said the players have been able to concentrate on the remaining games because of the respite from competitive play. The team made good use of the time, she continued, by doing focused training sessions geared toward their next opponents.
It was the nicest part to receive this break. Every one of our practice sessions was really targeted; we practiced against certain left-arm and off-spinner bowlers. With the conditions and the opponents in mind, we put in as much work as we could. We concentrated on our areas of weakness as a bowling unit and as a team,” Deepti Sharma remarked.
“We won there as well as having many benefits and lessons learned from our most recent away series versus England. Every game depends on how well you play as a team, and I think we’re only one strong game away from winning again,” Deepti Sharma continued.
Charlotte Edwards: England has played India before.
England would become the third side to go to the semi-finals if they defeated India, and head coach Charlotte Edwards was excited about the important match.
“Over the past 12 months, and obviously during the English summer, we’ve played a lot against India, so we’ve had a lot of experience playing against them,” Edwards said.
However, this is, I suppose, a one-time match in India for the World Cup, isn’t it? There is a big game tomorrow (Sunday), which we are eagerly anticipating, and we will be getting ready just like for any other game. We’re aware of India’s threats, but we also have some amazing players in our squad, so I’m confident we’ll have a great game tomorrow,” she continued.
