Following the most recent weekly update on Tuesday, December 23, South Africa skipper Laura Wolvaardt reclaimed the top spot in the ICC Women’s ODI Batting Rankings, while Indian all-rounder Deepti Sharma topped the ICC Women’s T20I Bowling Rankings for the first time in her career.
The off-spinner Deepti Sharma overtook Australian fast bowler Annabel Sutherland by one rating point to take the top spot with 737 points after scoring 4-1-20-1 in the first Twenty20 International of India Women’s current home series against Sri Lanka Women in Visakhapatnam.
In contrast, Wolvaardt reached a career-high 820 rating points after smashing consecutive hundreds in the second and third games of their home series against Ireland (124 and 100 not out), giving them a nine-point advantage over India opener Smriti Mandhana.
Following her undefeated 69 off 44 balls, Jemimah Rodrigues, India’s Player of the Match in Visakhapatnam, rose five ranks to eighth among T20I hitters. Ten boundaries from Jemimah’s knock helped the hosts win easily at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium. And after collecting 39 runs, Vishmi Gunaratne, the opener for the Sri Lankan women, has moved up six spots to 64th.
India’s Arundhati Reddy is up five spots to 36th in the T20I bowling rankings, while Shree Charani is up 19 spots to 69th.
After knocks of 45 and 64, Ireland skipper Gaby Lewis went up four spots to 18th in the ODI rankings, while her teammate Amy Hunter moved up from 31st to 28th. The South African players that moved up are Sune Luus, who moved up seven spots to 34th, and Dane van Niekerk, who moved up 24 spots to 95th.
