After her stint against Sri Lanka at the fifth game at Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday, December 30, Deepti Sharma had a fantastic close to 2025 and became the leading wicket-taker in Women’s T20Is. She climbed Mount Everest with her 152nd wicket in the shortest format after her performance of 1-28 in the series’ final match, where she got the big fish of Nilakshika Silva.
With 151 wickets in 123 games for her team, Australian bowler Megan Schutt previously held the record for the most wickets in the format. Although Deepti had previously tied the record in the third Twenty20 International, she had to wait till Tuesday’s match to add another feather to her already impressive cap. Nida Dar (144 wickets), Henriette Ishimwe of Rwanda (144 wickets), and Sophie Eccelestone (142 wickets) round up the top five after Deepti and Schutt.

In the five-match series, in which the Women in Blue defeated the Lankan Lionesses 5-0, the Agra native also claimed the most wickets. Despite having few batting opportunities during the series, the all-rounder made the most of her off-spin, taking five wickets in just four innings. In the third match, she played her best, scoring 3-18 in her four overs.
Since making her format debut against Australia in 2016, Deepti has grown to be an essential member of the Indian team.
She has played in 133 Twenty20 Internationals and has maintained a remarkable economy rate of 6.12, which makes her a deadly bowling option at various stages of the innings.
She was instrumental in her team’s calendar-year triumph in 2025, taking 14 wickets in nine games. Deepti will be hoping to add a few more honours to her resume in 2026, as the T20 World Cup is scheduled for June of that year.
