"It remains to be seen whether the fifth Test is still relevant after the fourth Test, but the relevance of the fourth Test is considerable," said Dasgupta.

'If only he had shown more faith in Bumrah' - Balwinder Sandhu on Jadeja's Lord's innings

Head coach Gautam Gambhir had stated ahead of the series that Jasprit Bumrah would only be able to play three games because the management was concentrating on keeping an eye on his workload, particularly after he sustained an injury near the end of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024–2025 after leading the bowling attack for the majority of the match.

As of the last two meetings, India is behind 1-2 in the five-match Test series against England. The first Test was played at Headingley, and the third at Lord’s, with the talismanic Jasprit Bumrah. The right-arm seamer rested during the second Test match at Edgbaston.

Deep Dasgupta, a former India batsman and wicketkeeper, disclosed that he had heard Bumrah would play in the first, third, and fifth Test matches against England. The cricketer-turned-commentator, however, advised the Gujarat speedster to reconsider his strategies since, should India lose the fourth Test in Manchester, the fifth Test may become much less important.

Yes, without a doubt, Jasprit Bumrah in the fourth Test. Rumour has it that he was supposed to play in the first, third, and fifth Test matches. However, with India now down 1-2, the fourth Test becomes extremely important. India Today cited Deep Dasgupta as saying, “You would definitely want the world’s best bowler to play.”

“The two Tests are separated by eight days. Although the fourth test has significant importance, it is unclear if the fifth test will still be useful after it, Dasgupta stated.

What is Bumrah’s performance in the 2025 Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy?

Bumrah scored five runs in the Headingley Test’s opening innings. He did not take any wickets in the second innings, though, as England managed to reach a goal of 371 runs with five wickets remaining. The 31-year-old scored his first five-for in the first innings of the third Test match at the Home of Cricket. He took a few wickets in the second innings.

In the two Test matches thus far, Bumrah has bowled 86.4 overs. His strike rate is 43.33 and his average is 21. Over the next few days, Bumrah’s involvement in the fourth Test will be a significant talking point.
