AB de Villiers backs Proteas to 'go all the way and win the WTC Final'

In the current 2023–25 World Test Championship cycle, South Africa has had an absolutely outstanding voyage. During their twelve games, they were able to win eight of them. With a close two-wicket victory in the opening Test of the two-match series, the Proteas secured their place in the final, which will begin on June 11 at Lord’s in London.

While acknowledging Australia’s superiority, former South African great AB de Villiers did not spare the South African team any recognition.

Without a question, Australia is the favourite. The Proteas have performed quite well, demonstrating that they are pushing for outcomes and playing a positive brand of cricket. That’s something I adore about them. De Villiers said, “The players and coaching staff deserve credit for their approach,” as reported by Hindustan Times.

The former batsman-wicketkeeper also showered captain Temba Bavuma with accolades for his development as a professional, both as a leader of the pack and with the bat.

Throughout the years, he has received a lot of criticism. See where he is now, too. sending the squad to the World T.C. final. New Zealand, England, and India are all outstanding cricketing nations. Wow, what a feat. However, they are still quite inexperienced, which is why they are not favourites. Lately, they haven’t visited destinations like England. Australia has not been visited by them,” he continued.

“They’re a group of warriors,” AB de Villiers says.

The former South Africa player supported his country’s chances of winning the prized trophy.

“My team will always be there for me. What a group of warriors they are. This was also brought up by Temba during the news conference. “I’ll take this team to war,” he vowed. Because I am certain that they will defend one another. You only want that, then. When you have that mindset, you can accomplish anything. Additionally, he said, “I will support the guys to win this WTC final by going all the way.”

Additionally, it is noteworthy that South Africa placed third in the previous two WTC cycles and sixth overall. They have undoubtedly improved their performances in the red-ball format, and it will be exciting to watch them play Australia.
