De Kock’s stumps destroyed as Prasidh inspires fightback

On December 6, during the third ODI in Visakhapatnam, Prasidh Krishna destroyed the stumps of South African opener Quinton de Kock. In the pivotal series finale, Krishna turned the tide in India’s favour with a remarkable recovery in his second stint following a costly start with the ball.

Krishna hit a full, fast ball at the stumps in the 33rd over, which resulted in the wicket. The stumps were in chaos after the ball crashed into them.

De Kock was beaten on the inside edge after failing to cover for the movement while trying to whip it across the line.

After getting destroyed in his opening two overs, this dismissal was Krishna’s third wicket in a frenzied stint. He dismissed Matthew Breetzke for 24 and Aiden Markram for just one run earlier in the same period. But during his stay, the wicketkeeper-batter was outstanding, scoring an incredible 106 off 89 balls, which included six sixes and eight boundaries.

Before the action started, India made history by winning an ODI toss for the first time after losing 20 straight in the format. Surprisingly, since the 2023 World Cup semifinal, the Men in Blue had not won an ODI toss. After an undefeated run to the summit match, they fell to Australia in the final of the big event in Ahmedabad, which marked the beginning of their run of ill luck.

In the series, South Africa overcame a challenging 359-run goal with a four-wicket triumph in Raipur after the hosts won the first ODI by 17 runs in Ranchi. Throughout the series, both teams shown moments of domination, setting up an exciting climax in the final ODI in Visakhapatnam. After the ODI leg is over, India and South Africa will turn their attention to the five-match T20I series, which will conclude the all-format trip and start on Tuesday, December 9 in Cuttack.
