IPL 2025: Following the exciting DC vs. RR match, Sanju Samson gives an update on his injury

At the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Wednesday, April 16, Sanju Samson injured his ribs while batting in the high-stakes match between the Delhi Capitals (DC) and Rajasthan Royals (RR), forcing him to leave the pitch.

With two fours and three sixes, the Rajasthan captain hammered 31 runs off 19 balls to get off to a brilliant start. With Yashasvi Jaiswal firing at full capacity from the other end, RR got off to a fast start in their chase of a 189-run mark. Sanju attempted to slash a googly from leg-spinner Vipraj Nigam in the last over of the powerplay, but he was unsuccessful. As the physio hurried to the centre to treat him, he injured his ribs in the process.

After getting treatment, Samson attempted to bat again, but that was a no-ball. He didn’t go for the run, but he smacked the free-hit ball to long-off. The Kerala batsman-wicketkeeper realised he was in terrible discomfort and made the decision to leave the pitch to need medical attention. Later in the innings, when the first champions were defeated in the Super Over, he did not bat.

After the game, Samson told JioHotstar that he was feeling fine and that an analysis of the severity of his injury would be conducted on Thursday.

“It’s okay with his injury. I wasn’t simply prepared to return and bat. Now it feels fine. Tomorrow, we’ll watch it and see how things turn out,” Samson stated.

When facing power hitters like Dhruv Jurel and Shimron Hetmyer, Mitchell Starc bowled a superb final over against the Royals, giving up just eight runs while defending nine. The Australian speedster gave up 11 runs in the Super Over. With two balls remaining, Delhi was defeated by Tristan Stubbs and KL Rahul. Because of his outstanding play in the closing seconds of the game, Mitchell Starc was named Player of the Match. After the game, Samson showered him with accolades.

“I thought the start we had in the powerplay was unquestionably a score that could be chased. We all witnessed some amazing bowling by Starcy, I believe. He is among the greatest men on the planet. I want to pass it on to Starcy. In the twentieth over, he won them the match. The plan was to swing hard. In the past several years, I believe Sandeep has been bowling our hardest overs.
