The Delhi Capitals have arrived in Vadodara for the Women’s Premier League 2025 season’s first round of games. Coach Jonathan Batty and captain Meg Lanning took a time to discuss the team’s performance in the competition and its preparedness for the next season.
Before the WPL began, Lanning, who guided the team to two straight finals in the competition’s first two iterations, spoke to the media in a virtual press conference and offered his thoughts on their performances. “We’ve had two successful seasons, but we didn’t win the titles,” she remarked. For now, it is important that we continue our current course of action. We have been doing the right things and playing some excellent cricket. Hopefully, the minor adjustments here and there will have some impact and enable us to go on. We seem to have assembled a strong team.
“The last two tournaments were great for us,” Batty continued. The improvement of the domestic players has been a pleasant observation. Throughout the off-season, we have held many camps where athletes come in and work with our instructors on specialist tasks.
Meg Lanning lays responded, “The WPL has had a huge impact not just on international players but also on the local players here in growing the game,”
when questioned about the league’s influence on women’s cricket. I’ve had a great time seeing their growth and progress as a player. With the kind of opportunities that WPL offers them, they have been improving. They get the opportunity to perform on a major platform thanks to the league.
Batty, however, highlighted that the level of effort being put forth by the young Indian players has impressed him. “Niki is among the well-known players we have signed who are of very high calibre. The new Indian players who are emerging on the scene are fascinating. It’s wonderful to see that they are actually making seasoned players work harder on their preparations,” he remarked.
On February 15, the Delhi Capitals will play the Mumbai Indians. On February 17, they will play Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and on February 19, they will play UP Warriorz in the Vadodara leg.
“We had a couple of practice games which are very valuable for the players to go out there, get into that groove and find their T20 rhythm,” Lanning remarked in reference to the pre-season camp preparations from Pune.
“All that’s left to do is practise for the game on Saturday. We are quite eager about the competition and the preparations have been excellent,” she said.
