After playing for Yorkshire for six seasons, former England batter Dawid Malan left the team by mutual consent. He was a key player while performing in front of the Headingley crowd after joining Yorkshire from Middlesex in 2020.
The left-handed hitter thanked head coach Anthony McGrath and general manager of cricket Gavin Hamilton for allowing him to look into other options. Hamilton also expressed gratitude to the cricket player for his contributions and wished him luck in his future professional endeavours.
“Even though I have had six successful and joyful seasons with Yorkshire, I believe it is time for the team to start over. According to ESPNcricinfo, Malan said, “I am thankful to head coach Anthony McGrath and cricket general manager Gavin Hamilton for letting me look for a new challenge elsewhere.”
Dawid Malan will always be welcome at Headingley since he has been a reliable run scorer in all formats. Hamilton said, “We wish him well for the future and thank him for his very significant contribution in recent seasons.”
The previous season, Dawid Malan captained the team in the T20 Blast.
Despite an outstanding batting performance, scoring 365 runs with a strike-rate of 156.65, he was unable to keep them from finishing second from bottom in the North Group.
During his tenure at Yorkshire, he also finished as the second-leading run scorer in T20 cricket, amassing 1642 runs. In the First-Class setup with the county, Dawid Malan also recorded runs in 2014 at an average of 54.43, demonstrating his steady play for Yorkshire over the years.
Dawid Malan last played for the Three Lions in the 2023 ODI World Cup, when Jos Buttler’s team was a complete failure. Additionally, he has a tonne of expertise on the franchise T20 circuit. The left-handed opening batsman has participated in the Bangladesh Premier League, Nepal Premier League, Pakistan Super League, SA20, and Big Bash League. In addition, he works part-time as a live game commentator.
