David Boon receives congratulations from ICC for his great career as a match referee.

David Boon joined the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees in 2011 and has since officiated around 400 international matches. The International Cricket Council (ICC) has congratulated Boon on a remarkable career as a match referee.

The 64-year-old Tasmanian, who now serves as a Board Director for Cricket Australia, last played in the second Test match between Zimbabwe and Bangladesh at Chattogram.

“On behalf of the International Cricket Council, I would like to express my gratitude to David Boon for his exceptional service as an ICC match referee,” said Mr. Jay Shah, chair of the ICC. He has accumulated exceptional patience and attention to detail throughout the years, in addition to his unmatched expertise as a top-tier athlete.

There are many difficulties in officiating international cricket, but David’s impartial decisions and perceptive observations have always won the respect of teammates, support staff, and players. His ethics and professionalism have established a standard for match umpires throughout the sport.

“I am sure David will bring the same commitment and leadership that have characterised his career to his new position with the Cricket Australia Board. We wish him well in this next phase of his career and are confident that his knowledge and insight will be extremely helpful to Australian cricket.

“I end my time as a match referee with the ICC with mixed emotions,” David Boon stated. Being a part of this nearly 14-year journey has been an amazing honour and joy. I am appreciative of the chance, the difficulties, the numerous priceless memories, and the friendships I have formed.

“I consider myself fortunate to have maintained such a strong connection to our wonderful game, watching international cricket up close. I want to go having changed things and helped officiate the world game.

“I would like to sincerely thank Cricket Australia and the ICC for their support throughout the years as I enter this new phase of my involvement in the game. I also want to express my gratitude to all of the referees and umpires I have worked with for being wonderful coworkers and, more importantly, wonderful people.

The most significant and vital factor is the strength, encouragement, and support of my family, particularly my wife Pip, as well as those close friends who are there to support me when I’m away.

“In my new position as a Board Director of Cricket Australia, I will remain involved with the game and hope to continue contributing positively, which will undoubtedly be aided by my match refereeing experiences.”

Seven women’s T20Is, 119 men’s T20Is, 183 men’s ODIs, and 87 men’s tests were officiated by Boon.

David Boon scored 5,964 runs in 181 ODIs with five hundreds and 7,422 runs in 107 Tests with 21 centuries throughout his 1984–1996 international playing career. When Australia won the World Cup for the first time in 1987, he was named Player of the Match.

In addition, David Boon was a national selector for Australia and the general manager of cricket for Cricket Tasmania.
