With his game-winning century against the West Indies in their series opener in Christchurch, Daryl Mitchell became the first New Zealand player to top the ICC Men’s ODI Batting Rankings since Glenn Turner in 1979.
Daryl Mitchell passed Rohit Sharma of India by only one rating point and passed Ibrahim Zadran of Afghanistan with his 118-ball innings of 119, which earned him the Player of the Match title.
Only 22 days were spent during Rohit’s first stint at the top.
Players like Nathan Astle, Ross Taylor, and Kane Williamson have risen as high as number three in the ODI batting rankings, although Turner was the last New Zealand player to hold the top spot 46 years ago.
Babar Azam, the star batsman for Pakistan, moved up one spot to sixth place after hitting an undefeated 102 in the second ODI against Sri Lanka in Rawalpindi last week. Meanwhile, Mohammad Rizwan and Fakhar Zaman, who each hit two half-centuries against Sri Lanka, moved up five spots to 22nd and 26th place, respectively.
For the first time, Abrar Ahmed is in the top 10: After taking three wickets in the second ODI against Sri Lanka, Pakistan leg-spinner Abrar Ahmed moved up 11 spots to a career-best ninth place in the ODI bowling rankings. The West Indies’ Jayden Seales (up three spots to 20th) and Roston Chase (up 12 spots to 46th) have both advanced, while Pakistani speedster Haris Rauf has climbed five spots to 23rd.
Yadav and Bavuma achieve career bests: After an undefeated 55 in the second innings of the low-scoring Kolkata Test, which his team won by 30 runs to take a 1-0 lead in the two-match ICC World Test Championship series, South Africa skipper Temba Bavuma has risen to a career-high fifth place among batters in the ICC Men’s Test Player Rankings.
India spinners Kuldeep Yadav (up two spots to a career-best 13th position) and Ravindra Jadeja (up four places to 15th) have also risen in the bowling order, while off-spinner Simon Harmer has climbed 20 spots to a career-best 24th position with his hauls of four for 30 and four for 21 at the Eden Gardens.
Following their hundreds in an innings victory over Ireland in Sylhet, Bangladesh skipper Nazmul Hossain Shanto (up four spots to 34th) and Mahmudul Hasan Joy (up 19 spots to 74th) thrive. Paul Stirling of Ireland moved up from 96th to 80th place.
Seam bowler Jacob Duffy has slipped from third to second place in the ICC Men’s T20I Player Rankings, while New Zealander Tim Robinson has risen eight spots to a career-best 15th place thanks to his 45 in the final match against the West Indies. Among those who advance are Mohammad Nawaz (up four spots to 27th) and Mitchell Santner (up five spots to 18th).
