'We're a group of Kiwis taking on the world, having fun and trying to win games'- Daryl Mitchell after half-century in Mumbai Test

On Friday, November 1, at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, New Zealand would be the happier team at the end of Day 1 of the third and final Test match against India. The hosts are behind by 149 runs after losing four wickets in their opening innings.

Daryl Mitchell, who battled through the hot weather at the legendary stadium to score a crucial 82 off 129 balls, was one of the Kiwis’ most impressive players on Day 1. After New Zealand, captained by Tom Latham, won the toss and chose to bat first, he and Will Young (71) put on 235 runs on a challenging wicket. Following his outstanding performance under duress, Mitchell stated that the tourists are a group of Kiwis who are eager to compete internationally and enjoy their sport while trying to win games for their country.

“We are just a group of Kiwis competing against the globe, having a good time, and attempting to win matches for our nation. “We’ll see what happens over the next few days,” he said following the conclusion of play on Day 1. “Hopefully, we can just keep chipping away like Kiwis do.”

Currently, the game is evenly poised: Daryl Mitchell

India lost four wickets for 86 runs at the end of Day 1, which put them in a difficult position. The great Virat Kohli, nightwatchman Mohammed Siraj, in-form batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Indian skipper Rohit Sharma all claimed four wickets. To go to Stumps, Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant led their squad.

Mitchell claimed that the game is still in the balance, despite the fact that many analysts and supporters believe the Blackcaps are in the clear at the end of Day 1. In order to throw India farther behind, the all-rounder stated that New Zealand has scored runs and will want to grab a few more wickets on Day 2.

“Hopefully, now that we have a total on the board, we can take a few more wickets. We’ll see what occurs on day two tomorrow. Right now, the game is evenly poised,” Mitchell remarked.
