In May, Daren Sammy was given the job of being the white-ball coach for the West Indies. Under his guidance, the West Indies have won all four One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and have yet to lose one. It’s important to remember that three of the four games were against the UAE and that their most recent win came in their first game against the USA in the ICC World Cup Qualifiers.
Captain Shai Hope (54 runs off 60 balls) and Johnson Charles (66 runs off 80 balls) set the stage with a 115-run partnership. When the USA put the West Indies in to bat, they were in trouble at 14/2 after six overs. Later, Nicholas Pooran, Roston Chase, and Jason Holder all played important runs that helped the West Indies get to 297. In the end, the people who had won the ODI World Cup twice were able to beat the USA by 39 runs.
Sammy said that he has been telling his hitters to try harder to score runs. He said that he wasn’t happy with how the hitters did against the USA.
Sammy told CWI reporters, “We don’t have a say in how the toss goes, but every time we bat, that new ball is a challenge.”
“When the new ball comes, you have to make sure the other team doesn’t get too far ahead. I thought we could have shown more desire to score, which is one of the things we talk about as a batting group. When I say “intent to score,” I don’t mean to look for boundaries. Instead, I mean to look for chances to score. If you do that, you can score off good balls and start a cycle of strikes.

Daren Sammy talked about the drops that happened and how they could hurt them in future games if they happened again.
“Once again, it’s a work in progress, and we need to keep bowling well and making chances. We missed a couple of saves, which could hurt us in the big picture. But I’m happy with how we’re doing. In the last six games, we’ve taken steps towards playing the kind of cricket we want to play as we move forward. Again, it’s about sticking to our guns and goals and believing in and committing to the execution.”
The former captain, who won the T20 World Cup twice, was hopeful that the team would soon be able to play cricket the way he wanted them to.
“Yeah, the guys have practiced well and are hitting a lot of balls. They also know what the team wants to do as a batting group.” It’s still early, but the fact that we’re starting to think about what we want to do as a team makes me think that things will get better in the days to come.”
