Daren Sammy was hired as the West Indies cricket team’s white-ball coach on May 12. In his first job, the Windies swept the UAE in a three-match ODI series on the UAE’s home ground.
Former West Indies batsman Ramnaresh Sarwan questioned why Sammy was chosen instead of Shivnarine Chanderpaul, who led the Jamaica Tallawahs to the Caribbean Premier League title last year.
West Indian all-rounder Keemo Paul was seen getting the new ball. He came back from an injury during the recent UAE series. Paul took four wickets in the two games he played. The talented young person recently praised Sammy and talked about how the leader, who has won the T20 World Cup twice, has helped the team.
“It’s great to have a celebrity like Daren Sammy around, because he’s so calm. He’s a really cool person. The players are very, very happy and very, very at ease. Paul told ICC, “He also brings a lot of energy and motivation to the camp.”
Keemo Paul is sure that the West Indies will make it to the ODI World Cup.
Keemo Paul doesn’t want to think about what will happen if the West Indies don’t make it to the ODI World Cup. He said he had faith in the team and that they would get to the ODI World Cup if they did well in the World Cup Qualifier event, which starts on June 18.
“I wouldn’t say that not qualifying would be a failure, but I wouldn’t look down that road because I think we’ll definitely qualify.”
“I don’t think of anything in life as a failure. It’s all about what you learn and how you move forward. I’m pretty sure of myself, and everyone else is, too. We’re ready for it, so I’m sure we’ll make it,” said the 25-year-old.
Paul has been away from the West Indies team since July 2022. He talked about how self-motivation and mental toughness were important to his success.
“I’ve been gone for a while, and now that I’m coming back, I’m just really excited to play cricket and act again with my friends, whom I call my second family. I’ve always been a hard worker, but I’d say that to get back here, I’ve had to focus more on details and get mentally tough. In cricket, it’s all about having a strong mind. It was just a matter of talking to the right people and getting the right motivation, as well as giving myself the right motivation.
“I definitely think I’m a winner, and I always try to be upbeat and my own cheerleader. I just try to get myself as excited as I can. “People may say I’m a match-winner, but I want to prove it,” said the all-rounder.
