‘Behaviour like that is unacceptable’- Head coach Daren Sammy calls out Alzarri Jopseh after decision to leave field

Alzarri Joseph’s decision to leave the field after a furious altercation with captain Shai Hope demoralized West Indies head coach Daren Sammy. Joseph wasn’t entirely pleased with the keeper’s field adjustments during the fourth over of the game. The 27-year-old eventually bowled a bouncer and removed Jordan Cox from the game, but instead of celebrating, he continued to be the hero at Hope.

Joseph continued his over after the captain remained silent. He made the curious decision to depart the field after it was over, which also perplexed Sammy. At one point, the West Indies had just ten players on the field, but he came back after an over. Speaking about Joseph’s antics, Sammy said that he would speak with him later and that such behavior is unacceptable.

That kind of behavior is not tolerated on my cricket field. We’ll be friends, but that’s not acceptable in the society I’m attempting to create. We’ll talk about that, for sure,” Sammy said.

Typically, our T20 team chooses itself: Daren Sammy

West Indies is keen to win the five-match T20I series against England, which begins on November 9, after winning the ODI series 2-1. According to the head coach, the two seniors who were absent from the series against Sri Lanka will return, and they will also attempt to include younger players to give them more visibility.

We anticipate the return of a few prominent players who were absent from Sri Lanka. Our most settled and successful team is our T20 squad. In order to give them that exposure, we do bring in a few fresh players, but our T20 team typically chooses itself, Sammy stated.

Notably, players like Nicholas Pooran and Akeal Hosein may return when the West Indies announce their T20I team on November 8.
