'You will be able to play only 50 overs in Test cricket' – Danish Kaneria blasts PCB for staging Champions one-Day Cup

Danish Kaneria, a former bowler for Pakistan, has voiced his confusion over the situation facing Pakistani cricket. He chastised the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for carrying on with the same old One-Day Cup in spite of a humiliating loss to Bangladesh, thus avoiding the obvious.

In addition to being unexpectedly eliminated from the 50-over World Cup in 2023 and the T20 World Cup in 2024, the Pakistan men’s cricket team’s Test performance is still a source of concern. During their visit of Australia, they lost all three of the Test matches they played, suffering severe defeats. Just a few days earlier, Bangladesh defeated them handily 0–2 at home, adding to their already immense suffering.

“What is the country of Pakistan doing? Whoa, they’ve got a One-Day Cup planned! After suffering through the longest format, being humiliated by Bangladesh, being unable to assemble a Test team, losing players, and more, what did you do? Hold the same old One-Day tournament? You can only play 50 overs in Test cricket if your approach is to concentrate on One-Day cricket. “You should have taken action when you realised that Test cricket was an issue,” Kaneria said in a video that was uploaded to his YouTube page.

He contrasted Pakistan’s situation to that of India, arguing that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PBA) ought to have built the Pakistan squad a structure akin to that imposed on Indian players by the Board of Control for Cricket in India.

“I don’t believe the Pakistan Cricket Board has improved Test cricket in any way, shape, or form. Take a look at India. India is a good place for Pakistan to study. The Duleep Trophy is being played by four teams. It involves every elite player in the world. They want to be prepared for the lengthier format and are getting ready for Test cricket,” Kaneria said.

You’ll observe that India will utterly dominate Bangladesh: Danish Kaneria

Later in the video, Kaneria boldly predicted that, in contrast to what happened in the Pakistan-Bangladesh series, India would force itself on Bangladesh and deny the visitors a chance.

Bangladesh invaded Pakistan and left us for dead. But you will see that India will absolutely destroy them in the series against them. They won’t even permit them to approach. “The Indian batsmen have prepared well for the Duleep Trophy, but Bangladesh’s spinners are good too,” Kaneria continued.

In the meantime, the majority of Indian players fared rather well in the ongoing Duleep Trophy’s first round. India will undoubtedly be favoured from the outset. But Bangladesh is no side to be taken lightly, and they will be expected to give it their all in the two-match Test series that starts on September 19, 2024.
