For the upcoming 2024 Vitality Blast, Daniel Sams has re-signed with Essex County Cricket Club; therefore, he will be playing there again. The first batch of eight matches between May and June is expected to include the 31-year-old Australian all-rounder.
For the third summer in a row, Daniel Sams—who assisted Essex in finishing as runners-up last season—will return to Chelmsford.
Following Sams’ return to the team, Anthony McGrath, the head coach of Essex, expressed his happiness. He is hopeful that, similar to the last tournament, Sams will be crucial for Essex in the upcoming one.
“Obviously, we’re thrilled that Daniel Sams has agreed to return to the Blast this season. We’re looking forward to seeing him again for the first block of T20 games because he proved to us last summer what he’s capable of and he was a vital member of our side,” McGrath stated, per ESPNcricinfo.
Daniel Sams said that he was happy to be back in Chelmsford and that he hoped to be a key member of the team that won the upcoming competition.
“I am very happy to be returning to Essex, especially after our 2023 year. The stadium in Chelmsford is fantastic, with a vibrant fan base that radiates from the stands during prime time under the lights. The all-around player stated, “It was a pleasure to be a part of our previous season’s success, and I think the team is talented enough to go one better and win some hardware.
In the 2023 Vitality Blast, Daniel Sams led Essex in both runs scored and wickets claimed. With an average of 29.92, he has amassed 419 runs in 17 games. With an economy rate of 8.40, he has taken 25 wickets at an average of 21.00. The 31-year-old also made an effort to help his team win the 2023 final against Somerset, but they lost by a score of 14 runs, with him being the last man out for 45 off 26.
