CWC 2023: Following Rassie van der Dussen's contentious DRS dismissal during Pakistan vs. South Africa, supporters accuse foul play.

Rassie Van der Dussen’s controversial decision to be declared leg before wicket following a dubious review sparked controversy in Match 26 of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 against Pakistan and South Africa. Van der Dussen was hit on his pads by Usama Mir’s fifth ball in the 19th over, and the entire Pakistani squad raised their hands in protest. Umpire Paul Reifel signaled the South African batter out by raising his finger.

Disappointed with the ruling, Rassie van der Dussen examined it right away, and the extreme edge revealed that there had been no ball contact with the bat.

Unfortunately, a malfunction caused the ball tracking to load automatically, missing the stumps. However, a few seconds later, the ball tracking was employed once more, and this time, Rassie Van der was pronounced out because the hitting was deemed a “umpire’s call.”

Fans are not happy about the occurrence and are accusing the authorities of manipulating the DRS system and reversing the verdict at their discretion.

Returning to the game, captain of Pakistan Babar Azam chose to bat first after winning the toss. The opening pair of Abdullah Shafique (9 off 17) and Imam-ul-Haq (12 off 18), who both fell victim to Marco Jansen and left their side on 38/2 after 6.3 overs, did not, however, support his choice.

Shadab Khan (43 off 36) added 84 runs for the sixth wicket off 71 balls to help Pakistan surpass the 220-run mark. Captain Babar (50 off 65) continued to hold one end and scored his third half-century of the tournament, but he once again failed to convert it into a big score and got dismissed by Tabraiz Shamsi Saud Shakeel (52 off 52).

Win for South Africa by one wicket

Nevertheless, they were bowled out for 270 in 46.4 overs after failing to bat for the full 50 overs. As a result of cheap dismissals of Quinton de Kock (24 off 14) and Temba Bavuma (28 off 27), South Africa failed to get off to a good start.

With his outstanding knock, Markram kept the innings together, but after being removed in the 41st over, South Africa was left reeling at 250/8, needing another 21 runs to win. The game was won by their side thanks to the contributions of Keshav Maharaj (7* off 21) and Tabraiz Shamsi (4* off 6) who saw their team home in 47.2 overs.
