Gautam Gambhir scolded those who questioned his qualifications as a head coach for India’s red-ball format shortcomings while he was in charge. Even though India performed well in the white-ball format—including winning a significant title like the Champions Trophy 2025—they were criticised for their home losses to New Zealand and their Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024–2025 loss to Australia.
Gautam Gambhir was quick to respond to his detractors. He asserted that he was aware of the criticism that he had received at the conclusion of the 2024–25 BGT. Additionally, he reaffirmed that his true role as head coach of the Men in Blue is to make the nation proud, not to appease the people watching from the sidelines.
He had the impression that several of the commentators considered Indian cricket to be their speciality. He ignored it and asserted that the Indian people owned it. Gambhir stated that he does not play politics within the team and that his goal was to assemble a team that proudly and fearlessly plays cricket.
“I understood there would always be ups and downs when I started this career. At the 2047 summit, ABP India stated, “My job is to make the country proud, not to please a few people sitting in air-conditioned commentary boxes.”
“Some individuals who have been watching Indian cricket for 25 years believe it is their family’s speciality. It isn’t. The Indian populace owns it. I don’t coach any quaint club or lobby. Politics is not something I believe in. “I’m here to create a team that plays with pride and without fear,” Gautam Gambhir continued.
I’ll remain in India and make my tax payments here: Gautam Gambhir
He then responded to those who had criticised his award money. According to the Indian head coach, non-residents of India earn money and save it by avoiding paying taxes. Gambhir declared his allegiance to India and promised to remain there and pay taxes.
Even my reward money was questioned. These NRIs earn money in India yet become non-residents to avoid paying taxes. It is important for commentators to understand that there is no ancestral inheritance in cricket. These individuals travel overseas and become NRIs. Gambhir continued, “I’ll remain in India and pay my taxes here.
