With Swapnil Kusale’s first Olympic Bronze Medal in 50m rifle 3P shooting, India is on a bronze medal binge at the Paris Olympics 2024. It’s important to note that Swapnil had to aim at the target while kneeling, prone, or standing throughout the 50-meter rifle shooting competition. In six rounds, the 28-year-old scored a total of 451.4 to win his first Olympic medal.
For those who don’t know, each position demands a shooter to fire repeatedly within the previously specified time limit. With a score of 463.6, Liu Yukun of China won the gold medal, and Serhiy Kulish of Ukraine took home the silver. Following Manu Bhaker’s wins in the 10m Pistol individual shooting competition and the mixed team version, India now has three Bronze Medals overall.
In terms of Swapnil’s performance, he finished the kneeling stage with 153.3 points and sixth place. He increased his stakes in the prone phase, scoring 310.1, which kept him in fourth place because third place was only 0.6 points away. After the standing stage, he remained in fourth place, but the elimination round changed everything. In the end, he scored 141.3 to take third place in the elimination round.
The 50m rifle three positions event finalist who was the first Indian to make it there was Swapnil Kusale.
Swapnil has shown promise in his efforts before excelling in the current Olympics. At the World Cups in Baku and New Delhi, he won gold and silver medals in solo and mixed team competitions. In the team event at the Cairo World Championships, he won bronze. In addition, he placed fourth in the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou.

He was the first Indian to advance to the men’s 50m rifle three positions final, and he made it an unforgettable one before making an appearance in the championship round.
