The request to add cricket in the 2028 Olympics Games, to be held in Los Angeles, was officially approved by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on Monday, October 16. The motion was approved during a vote session at the 141st IOC meeting held at Mumbai’s cutting-edge Jio World Convention Centre. Notably, two IOC members voted against cricket, and one member didn’t participate in the vote.
The Los Angeles Games in 2028 may contain five brand-new competitions. However, in addition to cricket, LA28 will also include baseball-softball, flag football, lacrosse (sixes), and squash.

According to IOC President Thomas Bach, cricket has become increasingly popular, particularly in the Twenty 20 style. He also brought up the ICC Cricket World Cup, claiming it has already been a success.
“Cricket is becoming more and more popular, especially the T20 format. Already a big success, the World Cup (50 overs),” Bach declared following the Executive Board meeting.
Cricket’s inclusion will increase Olympics Movement engagement: Nita Ambani
After the IOC members decided to include cricket, a sport that is adored all over the world, IOC Member Nita Ambani voiced his happiness. She continued by saying that the addition of cricket will increase cricket’s global popularity as well as create deeper participation for the Olympic Movement in newer geographical locations.
