For us, it means concentrating on the type of cricket we want to continue playing: Kane Williamson

Kane Williamson, the skipper of New Zealand, has made it abundantly plain that the Kiwis remain steadfast in adhering to their distinct brand of cricket in the run-up to the much awaited Cricket World Cup 2023. Kane Williamson reflected on their prior World Cup heartbreaks when speaking on October 4 at the Captains’ Day event in Ahmedabad, underlining the necessity to continue their unique style of play.

Despite making it to the finals in both 2015 and 2019, New Zealand suffered heartbreaking losses to Australia and England, with the latter match standing out in the eyes of cricket fans due to the contentious boundary count rule. However, as they set out on yet another mission for World Cup triumph, the right-handed batter’s resolution resides in adhering to their cricket identity.

“As you indicated, when you enter another event, everyone undoubtedly begins over from square one. As you move from tournament to tournament, teams and opponent conditions change as well. For us, concentrating on the cricketing approach that we want to stick with gives us the best chance of delivering our best performance, added Kane Williamson.

Sadly, the Kiwi captain won’t be leading his team in their inaugural game at the Narendra Modi Stadium, despite their passion and dedication to their style. He won’t be able to play in the opening game due to a persistent knee injury he received earlier this year while playing for the Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League (IPL). However, the 33-year-old is still acutely aware of the significant obstacles that his squad will face in this prestigious competition, which is scheduled to begin on Thursday, October 5.

“Over the course of the many tournaments we have participated in, it has been good to have some fun moments and undoubtedly full of varied obstacles, but we’re extremely enthusiastic about the challenges that lie ahead for this one. And the difference is that it will result in a magnificent moment here in India, as opposed to other tournaments, he acknowledged, glowing with anticipation for the next cricket extravaganza.
