Farokh Engineer
Farokh Engineer, a former wicketkeeper and hitter for India, says the Indian Premier League (IPL) is the envy of the world, but Test cricket can’t be given up for franchise league cricket.

Test cricket is very important to countries like India, England, and Australia, but players from smaller countries prefer the shorter franchise leagues because they pay better. He said that the World Test Championship shows the rest of the world that Test cricket can be just as exciting as limited-overs cricket.

“It’s not good that test cricket is in danger. T20 events are a good way for the game to grow around the world, but Test cricket should never be given up.

According to Engineer, who spoke to My Khel, “The World Test Championship proves to the world that Test cricket can be just as interesting as limited-overs cricket.”

The Farokh Engineer, who went to London to watch the WTC final between India and Australia, said that it is like a game of chess and that the pitch is usually in favour of the bowlers.

“Depending on the situation, it’s a game of chess. It is the most important test a pitcher can take. Both Test cricket and limited overs cricket should have a place,” he said.

The 85-year-old continued by saying that India has been great at both Test cricket and limited-overs cricket. He also said that Indian cricket is in charge, which makes him very happy.

“India has taken the lead in Test cricket, and our IPL is the dream of the rest of the world. “Indian cricket is in charge, and I’m very happy about that,” he said.

At the Oval in London, where India won its first Test match in England in 1971, the second WTC final is already going on. Notably, Engineer’s 59-run hit in the first inning was a big reason why that historic win happened.
